    Eggplant

When she said eggplant, how much it costs, the first person I thought of was you @pepperhead212 . I almost made a comment about the good price at the pepperhead residence in the coming july or august. You put in a few months of seedling care, then 2-3 months of gardening care, the magically (or...

    Eggplant

I'm in midwest in the US, (WI), and ours are running $1.99/lb or $2.39/1.20lb each. Soft is okay, where it springs back, mushy is not.

I appreciate you kept us informed on gardening in the southern hemisphere while we went through winter. The end of the gardening season is both a blessing with some sadness for the end of the season.

What are you eating Tuesday. May 14, 2024?

Inspired by @Aunt Bea talking about battered breaded baked food. We had 2 lbs of big bella mushrooms BBB with or without dipping sauce. (aldi's had 8 oz containers of them for $1.29 this week) They were delicious. We each ate big servings and there's two smaller servings left for planned overs...

Found an outstanding way to cook ham!

When I was growing up, my dad's side of the family served a slice of ham on a slice of potica (walnut honey pastry). Here's an apple pie in a paper bag to go with the ham. They make it at a local place here. https://www.elegantfarmer.com/pies-crisps/

Why does U of M tell you to process canned goods so long?

From what I've read, tomatoes used to be more acidic but now we have many tomatoes that aren't as acidic as they used to be. Plus some canners have never used 'safe' recipes and they keep using them. So for taste without regard for safety, there are dozens of recipes with differing amounts of...

    Eggplant

I use a peeler and peel it in stripes leaving about 1/3rd of the peel, then when I slice it there are some areas with and some without peel. If I don't peel it at all and put the slices in a dish, they are tough and don't break easily. It's up to you.

Why does U of M tell you to process canned goods so long?

Water level in canners. In a waterbath canner the water level is 1-2 inches above the jar lids. In a pressure canner the water level is usually below the level of the lids. A pressure canner that can hold 7 qt jars will have water well below the jar lids and if using 1/2 pint or pint, then even...

What have you had for lunch lately?

Mr bliss had some oral surgery today, so I'm inventing soft food. His favorite is ww spaghetti w/tomato mushroom sauce, so I'm making couscous with tomato sauce (using powdered spices herbs and mushrooms). I mashed chickpeas to go on the side, for added satiety. I made some vanilla pudding...

It was an unusually warm day here in WI, almost 80 deg F today. I had a cold salad of diced beets and onions, chickpeas, ac vinegar, pepper and nu-salt. The bee people sent me a tin of see's chocolates for mom's day. I cut them all in half so WE could see what was inside. They don't comply with...

Happy Birthday Taxy! May it be filled with good memories and future adventures. You DID?! Cool! Good idea! I bet mushrooms and zucchini would both be good. I need to remember that for the next time we have large whole mushrooms (instead of the sliced ones). We have done the cauliflower wings...
