Just throwing out a big wave as the newest 'new guy'. I've always enjoyed cooking beyond just making dinner to feed myself and I'm finally at the point in my life where I can make something of a hobby out of it.<br />
<br />
Hopefully I can contribute a bit here and there but I'm really looking to pick your brains as I most enjoy cooking intimate 'themed' meals. It's a search for ideas that brought me here, so once I find the appropriate page I'll post my thoughts for your input.<br />
<br />
I've lurked a bit and I've been here for ideas in the past, but I've gotten to the point where I'd like to participate, so a big thank you in advance for bearing with my perhaps-dumb ideas...<br />

I am a stay-at-home dad with 3 kids. I am also an avid cook. I cook for 5 daily. I am big into buying in bulk and food budgeting.<br />
<br />
Love doing stocks and soups from scratch. <br />
<br />
I have a slight aversion to buying anything prepared that I could do my self, Like convenience (microwave foods) I would rather take and afternoon and make breakfast sandwiches and other quick snacks that can be frozen in a ziploc for easy micro. As much about challenging myself as a cook as it is about budget.<br />
<br />
I am in love with yeast. Yeast is my friend!. I do a massive amount of baking, I own 3 bread machines and use them only as dough mixers, never bake in them. Bread, rolls, bread-sticks, pizza dough, Cinnamon roll dough, etc. I do also do a lot of pies, quickbreads and whatnot.<br />
<br />
Currently working on my personal chef certification. I have done a bit of that on the side so far.<br />
<br />
Finally I love to garden, in the summer I try to grow what we eat as much as possible.<br />
<br />
Well, that is likely enough about me, eh?<br />

this is going to be fun but is also a LOT of research<br />
and has also reminded me to THINK about how i cook what i cook<br />
and ask if there are better ways<br />

let's see.......i'm italian, i was raised old world, and i cook from scratch.<br />
i can and preserve and while this year did not raise a garden due to a back injury, normally i garden.<br />
i also keep chickens and ducks as pets and for eggs (and occasional dinners from my surplus males)<br />
 <br />
so i will be haunting the cookware section for now<br />

We do enjoy eating out, fabulous places to eat and fantastic chefs between inns and restaurants here in Maine but pocketbook limits the frequency.
