I am looking for some info on one of those big, heavy Westinghouse electric cookers. I know they cook a turkey well, but I have no clue how they really work (temp, time, etc.) Any information will be appreciated.

Hi,

I am considering in investing in a good stand mixer and I've heard a lot of good things about KitchenAid. Currently, I am debating between two types of KitchenAid mixers: the Artisan 5-quart stand mixer and the Professional 5 plus series (5 quart as well).

The Artisan is going for $261 + free shipping on Amazon.com in Cobalt Blue color. [original price is $349]
The Professional is going for $242 + free shipping on Amazon.com in Chrome color. [original price is $419]

I am wondering which type of mixer I should get. Value-wise, I think the Professional is a better deal. Popularity-wise, the Artisan wins by far. I am looking for your opinion in this issue. Please give me some pros/cons and personal reviews of these two mixers!

A little about what I want to do with the stand mixer: I am looking for a regular at-home mixer that is used mostly for baking cakes/cookies/breads in regular loads (i.e. not baking 6 batches of cookies in a setting - more like 1 or 2 batches). I don't believe I will be using the mixer for very heavy-duty jobs like kneading two loaves of bread at a time.

Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you all in advance! (I'm new here, by the way :))

I am looking to buy an electric range in the $1,000 to $1,400 price range. I cook fairly frequently, and would love a huge, stainless Viking range, but it's not in the cards as we recently bought our first house. Unfortunately, a gas range is also not in the cards, as we were quoted over $1,000 to have a gas line run.

The range must be:
-Stainless
-Self-cleaning
-Convection
-30"

I want something durable, that will last for years. I am leaning toward Frigidaire's Gallery line, because I like the cook of it and liked what I saw in the store.

Does anyone here have a Frigidaire Gallery electric range, or a similarly priced/featured one? Likes/gripes?
Thanks!

Personally, I'm better on the stove top, where I can stir, taste, touch up, etc. In the oven, it's such a "closed door policy". LOL

Hi,

I have recently moved to france and my apartment has an electric oven. I have read some of the other threads but none of them seem to have quite the same oven as me..The oven has one thermostat hat controls oven and grill. However it does not use farenheit or celsius, instead using Gas marks even tho it isn't gas. When I turn the dial, the first mark it reaches is 6 - is this the hottest setting or do i keep turning down to 5,4,3,2,1?
When i reach 2, the grill turns on. I presume the hottest setting for the oven would still be 6? or do i use the grill at the same time at setting 2 to get the most heat? Also how long does the oven need to heat up? It is quite an old oven, conventional not fan, an Arthur Martin Electrolux.

Thanks
