The US National Security Archive at George Washington University has obtained a 26-page document on how to make the military's brownies. The actual recipe begins on page 7 of the attached pdf:

*printing* I can't wait to try these :D

it kind of reminds me of this chemist's recipe for choc chip cookies that I remember seeing a long time ago, although this brownie thing is much more detailed:

1st try turned out a bit on the dry side, which may have been due to the baking time. The instructions said to bake for 30-45 mins or until done, so I set the timer for 30 mins & intended to check it every so often after that, but when I checked after 30 mins they were already done. Next time I'll only go for maybe 20mins instead. They're fairly nutty, which I like in a brownie. Generally they were fairly tasty but there's plenty of room for imrovement. Btw here's how it broke down

104g sugar
95g flour
76g unsalted butter (instead of shortening)
73g chopped walnuts
1 egg (~60g)
25g cocoa powder
20g corn syrup (instead of anhydrous dextrose; could have used golden syrup also)
1.4g salt (1/2 tsp or something)
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/8 tsp baking powder

(makes a 1lb pan)
