A pot roast is a big chunk of meat cooked in a covered container with some liquid. Any other additions are variable.

Thanks Cheryl! I use that cut of meat for a lot of different dishes. I'll even use it when I make something stew-ish like beef burgundy. Never could make a pot of stew like my Mom's, but I can make all kinds of other things with that "English cut" shoulder roast....Cooking Goddess, what a beautiful pot roast. Haven't had one in ages, must have one soon....
