mudbug, this may sound silly, but what is a section 4f document? Is it something that is related to archaelogy?

I goofed. I should have said Section 106. That's the section of the Historic Preservation Act that mandates that any federal action (or action using federal money), such as building a road for example, must be preceeded by an assessment of potential impact(s) to any historical resources, such as would be investigated and examined by an archaeologist. Section 4(f) is similar but pertains to state or federal parkland, wildlife refuges, national forests (I think), etc.

I'm generalizing on the intent of these laws and what they require, but essentially they require the services of an archaeologist, environmental planner, or natural resources specialist to identify and assess potential impacts to identified natural or historical resouces within an area that is proposed to be disturbed for any reason. These assessments are described in various environmental documents, such as FONSIs (Finding of No Significant Impact), CEs (categorical exclusions), EAs)Environmental Assessments), or EISs (Environmental Impact Statement, Draft and Final versions).

Just wondered, with you working up there on federal land, and with an archaeologist on staff, whether it was likely this person was on staff to comply with these regs in the course of your work.

I helped prepare and edit these types of docs for a lotta years, usually related to road and bridge projects that were at least partially funded by the feds.

Okay SierraCook -
Ranger Station...Lab...Archeologist...? You sound busy!

JulieV - my friend just told me she'd be baking her chocolate/white chocolate biscotti this weekend and said she'd drop off a box for me :)

as for coffee houses - here's a cute one - where I live, even though I'm in Los Angeles County, I'm in a tiny little "Leave it to Beaver" suburb. All residents still believe its 1955... Anyway, we have Classic Car Gallery (which is amazing) and there is a coffee hang-out inside. (Lots of muffins, cookies, scones and goodies )There are many more in this tiny town, as this is California, land of the coffee houses, but that one has the most personality.

Laced Coffee:

8 cups hot, strong brewed coffee
1 1/2 cups Kahlua
1 cup whipped cream

Fill coffee cup 3/4 full with coffee, add 1 1/2 oz (or to your taste) with Kahlua and top with whipped cream.

Awwww, Serracook. So sorry about the diabetes news. I hope they found it early enough to control with meds. I think a member or two here have diabetes. Hope all goes well with you...........wasabi

Thanks, Wasabi. I started my medicine today and I am working really hard to change my diet. I met with a dietician yesterday. I had done really well until yesterday, when I was talking to my mom and it made me cry. But I am better today and actually had a lot of fun spending time with my family. :)

I am sorry Sierra, I just noticed that. I'm glad that you saw a dietician already.

ok..this is a really stupid question..but I don't know much about it.. what kind of diet do you have to be on?
