Lonely holidays

This is our fisrt Easter without either of our twins at home. Our daughter is away at college and our son is autistic and living at a residential school for children with severe behavioral issues. We weren't going to make much of a meal but I decided to roast a turkey and make mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and popovers.
At the last minute, I make a hazelnut chocolate cake. Just because it isn't Easter without chocolate of some sort. My husband will probably end up taking most of the cake to work or I'll be passing it out to the neighbors.
Sorry you are feeling lonely this holiday, Katie E. Me too, for different reasons.

My kids want ham soo we will have ham, ravioli, with a meat gravy, artichokes with evoo, parsley, garlic, garbanzos, fixed about the same, deviled eggs, green salad, fruit salad, before hand the foccacia, and antipasto platter will keep everyone happy..After strawberry shortcake and for the kids very large chocolate chip cookies with chocolate chip ice cream made into sandwiches...
I'm positive someone will have something else to add so I might be back:LOL: I was right, scratch the strawberry short cake they want me to make cream puffs instead.

Well, it sounds like you will have plenty so I will be over shortly. Oh wait, my family is expecting to be fed. Nothing like your spread: glazed ham, deviled eggs, potatoes Anna (from the recipe off a thread here), roasted carrots with sherry and honey, green beans with shallots, lemon zest, and sliced almonds, crescent rolls (those horrible ones in the exploding tube--my grown kids LOVE those) and Easter candy for dessert (and a mess of fresh strawberries and ice cream). But seriously, save me some dessert, 'kay?

How do you make such dark turkey gravy?

That sounds intriguing... as does "Tomato Pudding." Is that an aspic?
Not an aspic. It is a 28oz can of tomato puree and a can of diced tomato (drained), 1 C brown sugar, 3 C cubed soft bread and 1 1/4 sticks of butter melted. Mix the tomato and sugar, pour the butter over the bread. Mix all together and pour into a casserole and bake 1 hour 350 deg.
It is an old country recipe that I have had for years.

Here was our weird Easter dinner.... just wasn't in the mood for ham. It turned out rather good.

Mark's little meatloaf with scalloped potatoes and beans

My dinner of chicken legs, scalloped potatoes and beans. I just used seasoned breadcrumbs mixed with parmesan cheese and garlic powder for the chicken coating.

Sorry if the pictures are too big. I'm on a different computer now, and they look HUGE.

Ah, I see - sort of a tomato bread pudding. Nice. So, what is the "big green egg"? :)

I'd love to share dessert with you...There are about 14 of us so every Sunday is an adventure. This Easter Most of the things I made were what my Mother IN Law use to make for birthdays and all holidays. You never had a holiday without he rvioli and gravy..So to surprise my DH and our kids, I made Noni's foods:)

I ended up making my ribs and they were great but the rest was canned beans and store bought potato salad. It was a beautiful day and I just didn't feel like anything heavy.
