After reading the talk about the rising cost of food, I noticed that Keltin showed us a great deal!
How about focusing on those deals that you get at the market?

Let's see what you've got!

Pork tenderloin for $.99 per pound this week ... yum! Hubby can cut it into chops and we still have a couple of roasts.

I regularly haunt the "Soon to expire" meat section....
$3.99 a pound bone-in sirloin... 3 lbs
$1.99 a pound organic boneless chicken breasts.. I got 10 pounds!
$2.99 a pound fresh salmon (they over-ordered).. I got 10 pounds!
A while back, they had Deli Style ham and turkey, regularly $3.98
for 79 cents. I got all 15.
Oh.. at Big Lots... Bumblebee canned crab meat, reg. $4.95.... $1.30. Got 8!

And my current super favorite deal place:
The Saigon Market!
Bean sprouts, $1.00 a pound, super fresh....
Basil, mint and other fresh herbs...$1.00 a package. I did the math, it
is about $5.00 worth of the little packages of herbs...
Napa cabbage, about $1.00 a pound vs. $2.29
Vermicelli noodles... 79 cents vs $1.99
Kim chi... $5.99 a quart, can only find pints for $3.99 elsewhere.....
Good Maspath NY kim chi, LOL!

I love finding deals! When I find decent fish or meat, I stock up. :)

I've started buying small primal meat packages to cut myself and freeze. I never thought that it made much sense, but given the rising food prices it is now starting to make sense. Some of my cuts are not the prettiest yet, but I'm learning.

I've purchased the All American selection from Omaha Steaks, with a coupon, for $59.00 plus shipping, twice now, and it seems to last me a few months. By the time it's gone, I always seem to get another offer in the mail, with another coupon, which I just got two days ago, and I will be reordering. You can do a google search and find the coupon number that will allow you to order on line or over the phone at the reduced price.

What you will get is:

4 (5 oz.) Filet Mignons
4 (6 oz.) Top Sirloins
4 (4 oz.) Boneless Pork Chops
2 (4.5 oz.) Stuffed Sole with Scallops and Crab
4 (4 oz.) Omaha Steaks Burgers
8 (3 oz.) Gourmet Franks
10 Potatoes au Gratin
an extra 6 burgers
a cookbook
a cheap set of knives and a plastic cutting board*

which, at $59.00, is an outstanding value for what you get. Otherwise, they're steaks can easily reach over $30.00 per pound, which I personally think is ridiculous!

* The knives and cutting board make a good housewarming gift if you know someone just starting out on their own. They're cheap, but they're serviceable

Aurora, ask the meat section if they will cut it for you.
Often that is free! :)

I buy the vacuum packed 20-30 lb. sealed plastic from a wholesale outlet which does not have any butchers or other specialists on site. It's purely a stock the shelves, freezers and refrigerated cases type of store.

My Great Deal at the Market Today..
USDA Choice Top Sirloin $4.77 lb.

Grilled to 142*...Allowed to rest. Sliced and served.

Don't panic....It served three adults, with some left over. Plus the "Kill Dawg" got a few scraps.

last month, on special at the Center Market in Poulbo Washington, they had the best deals of all. Of course I was on vacation, staying in hotel rooms using a rental car, having to fly home, so I couldn't make use, darn it.
