I just did a "dump" potato salad. Can't figure out how to get the photo from my Smartphone to DC.

Are you using the app? If so, when you're writing a post, tap the menu icon - three stacked boxes in the upper right corner - and tap Attach Picture. Select the picture you want to upload, tap Done, then Attachment. That should do it.
You could attach your phone to your computer by plugging the power cord for the phone into a USB port on the computer. Then you can copy the picture. They usually hide the folder with the pix on the phone. Once I plug my Nexus 5 into my computer the pix are at: Computer\Nexus 5\Internal storage\DCIM\Camera
