What is Salad Dressing?

A couple of times lately I've seen recipes that use salad dressing or creamy salad dressing. I don't know what this is. I know Hellman's. I know a dozen types of salad dressings. I'm thinking salad dressing is something like Miracle Whip, but I'm not sure.

Please tell me what salad dressing in a recipe means.

You're right. Miracle Whip or mayo, whichever you prefer.
I use half and half, DH doesn't like plain mayo and I dont like MW.
Compromise!

Without seeing the recipes you are talking about, we have no way to know. It could be something like mayo or it could be something like Italian dressing or something else all together. Post the recipes and we will have more info with which to help you.

Okay, I'm not sure if I'm posting right, but here goes

2 - 8 oz cans refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
16 oz cream cheese, softened
1 - 1 oz package ranch-style dressing mix
3/4 cup salad dressing

Unroll and bake the crescent rolls. cool, then cover with cream cheese, dressing mix and salad dressing Add fresh vegetables - broccoli, cauliflower, celery, onions,radishes, carrots, green pepper, and top with grated cheddar.

Refrigerate overnight. Cut into squares.

No, not from pampered chef, but from a local cookbook.

I somehow missed the cookbook page on Miracle Whip. I must have tasted it somewhere in the past, but have never bought it before.

You can certainly use mayonnaise in plae of the salad dressing.
