So what's that special dish you're cooking up for the upcoming holiday?

Mine: Christmas Eve, Seafood Gumbo
Christmas Day lasagna.
As for desserts: chocolate chip cookies, eggnog cheese cake, baklava, oatmeal raisin cookies, pralines, fudge, ginger biscotti, buckeye peanut butter balls, and struffoli, a pound cake and maybe cannoli.

Xmas eve will most likely be a charcuterie and cheese board.
Xmas day will be prime rib, wild mushroom bread pudding and other sides which haven't been decided yet.

Wow! Rick, your desserts sound fantastic!! Don’t tell me you make all of them!!!
We do heavy appetizers on the Eve or if we have a full meal, it includes fish, usually salmon. As others mentioned, we , too, have prime rib roast on Christmas Day. It is the only time of year that we cook a prime rib so it’s special for a special day. Sides usually include twice baked potatoes, green beans, mushrooms sautéed in Marsala, green salad, Waldorf salad, Brussels sprouts. Desserts range from Christmas cookies to fudge pie to whatever anyone brings! Merry Christmas to all!!!

Oldvine, they should just be thankful that you make the dinner in the first place. I say throw them a curve ball and change one of the dishes up. BwaHaHa!

...As for desserts: ...buckeye peanut butter balls...
As a native Ohioan, I fully approve of this dessert. :D Do you have an OH tie-in, or is this just something you like to eat?

I'm not sure if we'll be heading to OH for Christmas this year. Himself foolishly shoveled the entire driveway one day last week, and managed to tweak his back enough so that he could play Igor in "Young Frankenstein". IF we're stuck at home, I have a large block of ground meat waiting to be defrosted and turned into quarts of homemade spaghetti sauce. We'll have that on Christmas, along with a salad (need red and green for the holiday, after all). I'll then use some of the sauce to make a pan of lasagna for New Year's, if it comes to that.

Christmas Eve we spend at grandma's house and usually just order pizza. Christmas morning, however, the whole family gets together for Christmas Brunch with a beautiful spread of brunch/breakfast foods. We eat, open gifts, then sit around talking and watching Christmas shows the rest of the morning into early afternoon.

My Dad was from Ohio but I discovered buckeyes on my own... it's something everyone likes so I make them...

It seems standing rib roast is winner, when I was in the meat business we'd sell a lot of them during this time of year. I usually wait till after Christmas to buy you know after they've been marked down to half price..

And yes I make all the desserts. While I enjoy cooking I really enjoying baking and making candy...

I live in Columbus, Ohio, and buckeyes are great when they're made of chocolate and peanut butter. But they're not so great when you have to constantly pick up buckeye shells and half-eaten pieces of the things, that the squirrels carry into your yard, in order to keep them away from your dogs

Dad was from small bitty town northwest of Jackson, often spent summers there with my grandparents they had a farm.... lol about the buckeyes

Oh that sounds so cool. I love farms and used to spend time at my Aunt's farm on occasion. Hard work, but good times.

I came across a great five-pound piece of short ribs last week on sale, so I threw it in the freezer and am planning on making braised short ribs with mashed potatoes and crispy Brussels sprouts, along with yeasty dinner rolls, for Christmas Day.

For Christmas Eve, I'm thinking an assortment of finger foods cheese and crackers, etc. Might make homemade seeded crackers and will definitely make crusty bread for crostini.

Never tried to ride a pig, but I loved riding the horses. Also loved visiting the hen houses and gathering eggs, feeding the chickens, etc.
