I want to serve a lamb shank shepherd's pie for an engagement party buffet and wonder what sort of seafood dish would go with this. I want to also serve a roasted onion and arugula salad. Any ideas?

Hi,
Is this 'as well as' or an alternative for those not wanting meat? I ask because my first thought was fish pie which also has a potato topping and I can give you an excellent recipe if you want. If however you are thinking of perhaps a first course then I would suggest a shellfish/ smoked salmon cocktail served in glasses on a crisp shredded lettuce base with a marie-rose dressing.

Thanks for your ideas. This is a buffet and I had thought of a Cod Pie, but don't want to dishes with potato. I think you are right about a cold seafood with greens.

I think of Shepard's Pie as a heavy dish, where seafood is pretty light and delicate for the most part. I can't think of a seafood dish that would actually do well along side the pie. Maybe a hearty dish made with Bacalao.

The cold seafood appetizer is probably the best option with the least effort.
