French Oatmeal and Coconut Bars

3 cups boiling water
2 cups oatmeal
1 cup margarine
2 cups brown sugar (Dark)
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
2 2/3 cups flour
2 tsp soda

Pour boiling water over oat meal and let stand 20 minutes—Add remainder and stir well. Pour into a greased @ floured 2 inch hotel pan. Bake 350*F 30 minutes.
Make frosting while cake is baking and frost while HOT

Frosting

3/4. Cup margarine
1 cup evaporated milk
1. 1/2. Cups cane sugar
10 ounces coconut flakes
1 cup pecan chopped
2 tsp soda

Bring milk, margarine, sugar to a boil. Remove immediately and add coconut and pecans.
Stir well spread over cake while still hot. Raise oven tem. To 500*F and brown off coconut.
This is very rich. Cut and serve when cold.

This recipe is over 65 years old originally from Bishops cafeteria in Waterloo Iowa

Complements of Chef David Hutchins retired

This is easy to make but it requires a large pan to make it or two medium. And this very good, slightly chewy

Rice-Broccoli-Cheese casserole
Rice-Broccoli-Cheese-Chicken casserole
Tamale Pie casserole

How about scalloped potatoes with pieces of ham throughout...A big mac and cheese,a sliced ham and potatoe or macaroni salad, beans and a big pan of corn bread.
kadesma;)

one that my mom always makes and never any left.

1- bag frozen cooked meatballs ( the precooked little ones)
2-pkg of the lil smokies or cocktail winnies
1- jar grape jelly
1- jar cocktail sauce.
if you want extra saucey make 2 jars of each
put them all in a crockpot and heat them

it is also nice as you can just take the crockpot and go.

another one is slice desired amount of keilbasa up ( usually 2 pkgs -I slice it in thicker chunks) and then add a couple cans of chunk pinneapple and heat it all through.
thats it- it comes out with such good flavor.

They always have so many starches and sweets at these things that I like to take a 7 Layer Salad. If you need a recipe, PM me...mine's the best.

No brag...just fact. :chef:

Beans and Rice

You can do a lot of fancy things with beans and rice. They don't have to be boring or plain, and they're healthy protein too. Plus, they're cheap.
