Would anyone happen to have this recipe? It has Granny Smith fried apples, pecans and strussel baked in a dumpling and topped with vanilla ice cream. I can probably pull the fried apples and strussel just need to know how to make the dumpling. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Marmalady! I thought a dumpling would be similar to biscuit dough and not as crispy as pie crust. At least, that's how Cracker Barrel's baked apple dumpling tastes like. I'm going to play with it a little bit to see what I can come up with. Thank you for your suggestion.

Cracker Barrel Apple Dumplin Copycat recipe

This is my version of the recipe. Use your favorite apple pie recipe using Golden Delicious apples and top with your favorite praline topping. When the pie is done, remove from oven and add your favorite recipe for caramel topping or a commercial brand might work. Return to oven for a few minutes or just until topping bubbles. Remove from oven and cool. Serve warm with your favorite vanilla bean ice cream. Enjoy!

hi kitty--what is "your favorite praline recipe." I do not have a praline rec, so am not at the gate. Apple pie, you bet, caramel sauce no problem, but plese help with the praline part thanks, graysmoke in pacific northwest

Praline Topping

Here's a good praline topping from cabelas.com:

1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons margarine--softened

In a small bowl combine pecans, flour, brown sugar, and margarine. Mix with fork until crumbly.

I've never had Cracker Barrels's apple dumplings but my grandma alway made some that were really good. I don't have her recipe but I know she often used her sweet roll dough for the crust. Sometimes she would use pie crust because it was quicker but the sweet roll crust is much better. I went surfing for a copy cat recipe and found their chicken dumpling recipe which I plan on making soon. I've been wanting to make it for a while and just never looked it up. Thanks for the prompt!

Cracker Barrel Baked Apple Dumplin'

Cracker Barrel Baked Apple Dumplin'

1 (17.5 ounce) package frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 cup white sugar
3/8 cup dry bread crumbs
3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 egg, beaten
4 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored and halved
1 cup confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 tablespoons milk

***Pecan Streusel***
2/3 cup chopped toasted pecans
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
5 tablespoons melted butter

1 Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking
sheet.

2. Roll out each sheet of pastry to measure 12x12 inches. Cut into quarters,
to make 8 - 6 inch squares.

3. In a small bowl, combine sugar, bread crumbs, cinnamon and nutmeg. Brush
a pastry square with beaten egg. Place 1 tablespoon bread crumb mixture in
center. Place one apple half, core side down, over bread crumbs. Top with
another tablespoon of mixture. Pull up four corners of pastry and pinch
sides together to seal seams completely. Repeat with remaining apples.

4. Brush each dumpling with beaten egg. Place in preheated oven for 15
minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and continue
baking 25 minutes more, until lightly browned. Let cool completely at room
temperature. 5. To make icing, combine confectioners' sugar and vanilla
and enough milk to make a drizzling consistency. Drizzle over cooled
dumplings. Serve the same day.

PECAN STREUSEL:

In a small bowl, combine 2/3 cup chopped toasted pecans, 2/3 cup packed
brown sugar, 2/3 cup all-purpose flour and 5 tablespoons melted butter. Mix
with a fork until mixture resembles moist crumbs. Use as directed in recipe.
Make more or less as desired.
