Hi everyone,
I'm making sangria for the first time and I need some help. What type of red wine and brandy is best for traditional sangria? Thanks for any help!

WE discussed this at length last summer. I recommend you do a search on the word and check out the discussions.

Generally, an economical red table wine is used since other ingredients are used (Why use expensive wine unless you truly are tasting the wine on its own?)

Recipe - Sangria de Vino Tinto (Red Wine Sangria)

Ingredients

1 bottle Red table wine
1 Orange with skin, diced into 1/2” cubes
1 Lemon with skin, diced into 1/2” cubes
2 Peaches, diced into 1/2” cubes
1 Apple, diced into 1/2” cubes
2 cups Soda (Club Soda, sparkling water, or lemon-lime soda - we prefer 7up™)
1 cup Liquór (Spanish Brandy, Cognac, or Gran Marnier)
1 small can frozen lemonade concentrate
sugar to taste
Cubed Ice

Instructions
  1. In a large Pitcher add the diced fruit and lemonade concentrate.
  2. Add the bottle of wine and allow the fruit to macerate from 30 minutes to several hours in the refrigerator.
  3. Add the Liquor, soda, and stir gently.
  4. Add sugar to taste and enjoy with ice!
Good luck!

I don't put lemonade or club soda in mine, either, although DH likes the club soda. I also use white zinfandel for the wine, because that's what I like to drink :) If I'm having company, I make a pitcher of pink and a pitcher of red.
