Brown sugar lemonade

Has anyone ever tried using brown sugar instead of white to make the simple syrup? My daughter, while student teaching at Towson, use to go by a deli that served Brown sugar lemonade, now we are trying to reconstruct it. Any help of ideas much appreciated.

Is the deli still around? If so, how 'bout contacting them for the recipe. Initial compliments to them about how wonderful it was/is before asking might grease the skids a bit to get you the recipe.
