I don't normally do it, but I too have peeled button mushrooms. It's kind of like peeling a grape. Though in the case of the grape, the end result is sweeter, and more tender. Peeling a mushroom just makes for a gorgeous presentation. I will only peel mushrooms for my wife, and then only once in a blue moon, just because it's and extra nice thing to do. And like when I peel her the occasional grape, it's appreciated that I go through the extra trouble, just for her. It's a way of saying that your partner, or guest is extra special to you. At least it is for me.

The peeled grape thing was first done by me as a gag, you know, like in the movies when the queen would command her servants to "Peel me a grape!" Then, I tasted one, and knowing my DW's sweet tooth, and her aversion to sour things, I discarded the gag idea and peeled her some grapes because I knew they would be a treat for her.
