I want to buy potted herbs--already grown, in a pot with soil.

So i can have my own little garden in the kitchen area.

But where can I do to get this? A nursery?

Yes. A garden center or places like Home Depot, Lowes, and many supermarkets in the spring.

There were a number in our local farmer's market today.

Have grown them many times from seeds in the house and many are very easy including chives and basil.

Any garden center, Lowes, Home Depot, K-mart, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. will have herbs in those little plastic pots. Be very careful when planting them and give them room to grow. If you have good soil and keep them moist, those tiny little plants will grow before your eyes and they get very large. I have basil, thyme, chives and sage that is growing by leaps and bounds. Pesto anyone???

For indoor herbs, keep in mind that they need full, bright sun (south or southeastern exposure) or close artificial light in order to survive.

Very good point, Breezy.

I love the herbs in Ina Garten's kitchen, but they are tucked on a back counter, under a cabinet, I think. She must be getting new ones all the time.

At least, I THNK they're herbs.

Oh, Ina is on now! There they are! Maybe she has a strip of grow lights under that cabinet. That would be cool! I could do that!
