Are there any Australians on this forum who grow their own veggies and herbs. I am a complete novice having never grown anything, ever.

With that out of the way how would I go with.

Growing some window sill pots of useful herbs like mint, thyme etc.

Currently it is Winter here and gets cool of a night at about probably 8 degrees celcius but during the day can be warm or cool.

Do I need to wait till spring to begin?

Hi Knight76, I am in Perth where it doesn't get quite as wet as NSW. If you are doing pots you should be okay to start them now, esp if you buy est pots rather than seeds or seedlings. A lot of the herbs don't like wet feet so don't overwater and give them good drainage. I just killed my thyme through too much water. If you plant into the ground, snails and slugs are going to be your biggest concern. Get the sturdier herbs llike parsley and chives started now and wait till nearly spring for the more delicate ones like basil. Good luck.
