Definitely could be the problem

I have a big concern about my new hydrangea. I live in zone 9 and almost all sites I visit for growing them recommend shaded areas. Will they do okay in an extra large barrel planter under my patio?

Hi, Dina. We have several hydrangeas around our house - they can grow quite large, 5-6 feet tall and wide. I can't quite envision putting them in a planter under a patio - to me, a patio is on the ground. Do you mean a deck, raised above the ground? If there's enough vertical space under it, I guess they would do all right. They grow naturally in the woods under large, shady trees, so that's the kind of environment they do best in. HTH.

Thanks. I guess I better dig out my beautiful hydrangea of it's sunny space before it dies on me. I will probably dig out some plants that never bloom that are sitting in a shady area and replant it there. Oh, I don't have a deck. We have a covered porch in the back yard where I keep some planters. It has shade most of the day. If hydrangeas grow so tall, I'm better off replanting it on the ground. Thanks again.
