Newspaper in the garden ... will this work?

Layering the newspaper and compost is a great idea. If you soak the newspaper as you lay it out, it will stay put and not blow around.

I am going to mulch with cardboard and straw this year, IF the blasted rain ever stops so I can plant.
 
I am so lucky.

The farm where I board my Arabian mare is going to allow me to "share" her garden this summer.

The great thing is there is an unlimited amount of chicken bedding and dry horse manure to use as well as used straw for mulch.

The bad thing is, I have not convinced Joyce to build raised beds.

But I am looking forward to a bountiful harvest this year!
 
My Grandmother's trick to for tomatoes is to put a trowel full of manure into the planting hole and mix it into the soil before she puts in the tomato plant.
