I believe it's called Mountain Pinks. Stuff grows like crazy. If you need some ground cover, this is it. I ripped out about 8 feet from the front of the bed and gave it to a friend of mine. It was waay too much. I try to train it to look like it overflowing and cascading down the stone. Only flowers in early spring, then it's all green.

Those are "lily of the valley", do great in shade, and do self sew.
It's a shame somethings destroying them. I would check with your local extention service to see what you could do to prevent that. Or put a piece of chicken wire just under the soil surface, or dig them up when finished blooming and store in cool dry place for next year.

The cherry blossoms are so beautiful. I asked my dh to plant me a cherry blossom tree for mother's day. I hope he does it.

P.S. "lilly of the valley" are poisonous to humans and probably pets.
