This "weed" was growing over by my chicken coop. I whacked it with the lawn mower last week and just happened to notice these green bulbs growing on it. They are about the size of a cherry tomato and smaller.
Was this a tomato plant?

Shoot. I kind of thought so. Probably too late in the year to grow anyway.
It may be from their scratched out droppings or also from when I toss them in leftover salad fixings. Next year if I see any I'll leave them alone.

Yup - definitely looks like a tomato plant. Either from leftover salad or seeds that passed thru your chickens or another bird. Quite often veggie seeds pass thru unhindered by birdie digestion if the bird didn't hull them (which some, including chickens, don't).
