Yes. Anyone can make up to 25 gallons for their own personal use. And you are not allowed to sell any of that. Any amount above that you have to have a permit. Steve makes wines that are good enough to win top prizes against some of the finest and well known houses of wine in this country. We try to follow his efforts each year. :angel:
 
Is it legal to distil alcohol at home in the US? It isn't in the UK.
No. Unfortunately, we can't legally distill alcohol in the US, either. The only country I'm aware of where it's legal to distill is New Zealand.

As far as beer and wine go, we're allowed to make 100 gallons per adult in a household, up to a maximum of 200 gallons (none of which can be sold). 200 US gallons is 1,000 bottles of wine. As much wine as I make, I've never come close to that amount. I think the most I've made in any one year was 160 gallons, but usually it's right around 100 or so. And even that amount is quite a bit of work.
