Boiling chicken same as crockpot?

Does anybody know if boiling a chicken has the same effect as putting it in a crock pot? Thanks

Yes, but you shouldn't boil it, just simmer it. Simmering will just have a few bubbles coming up to the surface of the liquid rather than a full rolling boil.

You should be aware that newer crockpots generate a higher heat on the "low" setting than older ones (apparently Rival is particularly bad in this respect). Ppl set the crockpot to "low", expecting that low simmer that Andy refers to and find that the liquid gets much hotter.

DC had at least one thread on this problem with crockpots - in the "cookware and accessories" section. A quick search found this DC link re crock pot temps. There may be others too.
