I recently pickled some salmon that was in the freezer since last summer. Pickling is a great way to use up fish that you're not planning to cook, but I've only pickled salmon, bluefish, and herring. Does anyone know of any other fish that are good pickled?
I live in Alaska, where we don't have bass or catfish. Someone told me that halibut is a bad fish for pickling - tends to get mushy or something.
We do have trout, but you have to fly in to the places where the big ones are. We also have northern pike (unfortunately...they kill off baby salmon like crazy), and someone told me that's not a bad fish to cook. I don't know if you can pickle them, though, and I can't find any information on this on line.
Any ideas on this? Thanks for any input!
