From everything I have read you can use it any place you would good quality extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). Like EVOO, it has a distinct flavor (described as nutty and fresh) ... so you'll just have to try it and see how it taste to you.
As for smoke points (depending on which chart you look at), EVOO is about 405ºF and cold pressed avocado oil is around 490ºF. Refined OO and avocado oils will have less flavor but a little higher smoke point.
