Recently at the local farmers market someone was selling big stalks of brussel sprouts. I buy a couple and remove the 'sprouts'. A vegetable gardening 'expert' was giving a little seminar on how to store veg.
She said to take the sprouts off the stalks right away b/c the stalk actually sucks up the sugar from the sprouts. She said the same about removing carrot tops and beet tops etc.
Does anyone here know if this is so?

It has been my understanding that you should cut off the greens for carrots and beets as they draw moisture out of the veggie. Can't say f the same is true for BS.

I love Brussels sprouts. I hate hsrvesting them. We leave the on the stalk. I take beet greens off because they wilt so quickly. I will leave carrot tops on for a few days. I use them in all kinds of ways. Gremalata, pesto, pan-fried for garnish, instead of flat-leaf parsley, etc.
