I'm making a french onion "soup" green bean casserole for a banquet. I need to carmelize the onions, going to use frozen green beans(thawing now), and the typical white sauce.

Can I mix it all ahead of time then just pour in a dish to cook at 6pm? I will keep everything separate until mixing time then just put it in together to cook just before we have to go.(45min anyway)

Will this mess up the onions or the white sauce?(no cheese in sauce)

thanks

I don't see any reason why it can't be put together ahead of time. The only thing would be to wait to do the bread crumb topping just before baking or it may get mushy and not crisp up like you'd want. Other than that, I'd think it would travel okay. If you bake it at home, once you arrive at your destination, pop it back into the oven for a bit to rewarm it.
