I am planning to cook some food such as roast potatoes, Sauces, soups, etc., In order to put them into jars.
However, I was wondering what is the life expectancy for food in jars.

Today, I cooked roast potatoes and I put them into sterilized jars.
I do not know what "best before" Date to put on the jars.
Cool anyone to help me. Thanks in advance.

Is there maybe a guideline that I can find somewhere on the web, or a specific book that would tell me that.

There's a Facebook page called SHTF, it's for people preparing for disasters ("preppers"). They have information on saving food in jars. The Ball Blue Book is a good resource for pressure canning. You will have to pressure can or refrigerate jarred foods.
