ISO Fruit Cocktail cake

My friend is seeking a recipe, probably from the mid-west for a cake that contains canned fruit cocktail. It was a childhood favorite of hers and the only person who had the recipe or knew how to make it is no longer alive. TIA

Linda

This is one of our families favorite cakes! My son even wants it for his birthday present. Some people make it with crushed pineapple instead of fruit cocktail, but I haven't tried that yet.

FRUIT COCKTAIL CAKE
MIX TOGETHER
2 CUPS SUGAR
2 CUPS FLOUR
2 TEASPOONS SODA
2 EGGS
2 (15.25) OUNCE CANS FRUIT COCKTAIL
POUR INTO A 9X13 PAN
BAKE AT 350 FOR ABOUT 30-40 MINUTES, OR UNTIL IT IS SPRINGY TO THE TOUCH

FROSTING
PUT IN A LARGE MICROWAVE BOWL (MORE THAN 2 QUARTS) (OR IN A SAUCEPAN)
1 1/3 CUPS SUGAR
1 STICK BUTTER
1 SMALL CAN EVAPORATED MILK
1/2 CUP COCONUT (OPTIONAL)
COOK UNTIL THICKENED
POUR OVER HOT CAKE

Hope she enjoys it!
