where do you get lids, that can be placed on your typical cans that store your canned veggies ?

Are you talking about the cans you bought the food in? Don't store anything in the can it came in. Use plastic or glass containers with their own lids. Or just use a bowl and cover with clear cellophane.
Cans were not meant as storage containers and your food will taste like metal after a day or so. Not a good idea.

Yup! Best to take it out of the can.
If you are storing them for short amounts of time, the plastic caps for
dog and cat food cans should fit a regular veggie can.
