I was reading the thread about the lip balm recipes and wanted to give some recipes for lip balm and a lot more. I didn't want to post it in the same thread as the lip balm question because there is so much more than lip balm here. Sorry about the long post, but I hope some of you try these out!

Grandma's Oat Scrub
Oat Facial Cleanser Recipe makes 3/4 Cup


1/4 Cup Regular rolled Oats
1/2 Cup Baking Soda

1) Place oats in a blender or food processor and grind until a fine flour is made


2) Blend in Baking Soda

3) Store in a glass container

4) To use - place a small amount in the palm of your hand add enough water to make a paste. Apply the paste
to you face and scrub. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.




Deodorant & Antiperspirant
Natural Deodorant
Equal parts of dried lemon peal & lavender
Grind together in a blender until a very fine powder, and store in a shaker jar


Natural Antiperspirant
Equal parts of dried lemon peal & dried sage
Grind together in a blender until a very fine powder and store in a shaker jar


Natural Deodorant/antiperspirant
Equal parts of dried lemon peal & lavender & sage
Grind together in a blender until a very fine powder and store in a shaker jar






Hair Rinses
To give hair shine
4 Tabs Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Cup Warm filtered water
After shampooing hair combine vinegar & water and pour over hair, massage in, rinse with warm water, dry & style as usual



For Blonds & to lighten hair color:
2 Tabs Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Tabs Fresh Lemon
1 Cup Warm filtered water
After shampooing hair combine ingredients and pour over hair, massage in, rinse with warm water, dry & style as usual

OR
11/4 Cups Calendula
1 Cup Filtered water
Place calendula in a heat safe bowl. Bring the water to a boil and pour over the calendula. Allow to steep for 20-30 minutes. Strain.After shampooing hair pour solution over hair, massage in, rinse with warm water, dry & style as usual.



For Brunettes
1 Cup Black walnut shells
2 Cups Filtered water
In a saucepan combine water and black walnut hulls bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from heat & allow to cool to a comfortable temperature, then strain out the shells & reserve the water. After shampooing hair pour solution over hair, massage in, rinse with warm water, dry & style as usual.



Herbal Volumizer
1/4 Cup Nettles, dired
1 cup Filtered water
Combine herbs and water in a pan. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer, covered, for 20 - 30 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool, then strain out the nettles and reserve the liquid. After shampooing slowly apply the liquid to your hair. Do not rinse out. Dry & style as usual.

OR

1 Dropper full Nettle tincture (30 drops )
1 cup Warm filtered water
Add the Nettle tincture to the warm water. After shampooing slowly apply the liquid to your hair. Do not rinse out. Dry & style as usual.






Oatmeal
Oats contain calcium and magnesium and fiber.


1 Cup Rolled oats
2 Cups Filtered water
1/4 Cup Whey or lemon juice or vinegar
1 tsp sea salt
2 Cups Additional Filtered water
Butter/Cream



* If you don’t have a grain roller you can toast the oats in a 350’ oven until they turn light brown, then grind them in a food processor until coarse. Or you can juy rolled or steel cut oats, but be sure to buy the ones in an air tight package (not open bulk bins) to preserve freshness.


Soak oatmeal 8-24 hours. Bring water & salt to boil
add soaked oatmeal, reduce heat cook 10” (or so) top with butter or cream.




Colorado Salve
Colorado Salve - Basic

Base, beeswax, cocoa butter or coconut oil, almond oil or olive oil

Recipe 1 Oz beeswax (may need additional for thickening)
1 1/2 Oz cocoa butter
1 1/2 Oz almond oil. (3 Tabs + 1 tsp)
1 cup of strong herbal infusion or decoction.

1) Place wax & infusion in a double boiler.Bring just to a boil an turn down heat to simmer, stirring constantly until water has mostly evaporated. Add the cocoa butter & almond oil and mix briskly to prevent scorching.

2) Add small amounts of beeswax if thicker mixture is needed.

3) Pour mixture into jar and allow to cool. Then cover.


Short cut for Salve.
Recipe:
1/4 tsp essential oils
1 Oz beeswax
1 1/2 Oz cocoa butter
1 1/2 Oz almond oil. (3 Tabs + 1 tsp)

1) In a double boiler melt together the beeswax, cocoa butter & almond oil. As soon as wax & cocoa butter melts remove from heat and stir in the essential oil.

2) Pour into a jar, allow to cool. Store at room temperature.






Base Lotion
Base Lotion
Almond oil, palm oil, apricot kernel oil, sesame oil, cocoa butter.

Recipe 2 Tablespoons Almond oil
2 Tablespoons palm oil
2 Tablespoons Apricot kernel oil
2 Tablespoons sesame oil
1 Oz cocoa butter
Essential oils of your choice.

1) In the top of a double boiler melt together all ingredients except for essential oil.

2) Remove from heat and stir until mixture cools and begins to thicken.

3) Add essential oil blend of you choice up to 1 teaspoon.

4) Pour into jar, let cool and store at room temperature.






Infused Lotions, Creams & Ointments
Infused Lotions, creams and ointments.
Oils, herbs of your choice.

Recipe #1
1) Measure out the oils to be used in the chosen recipe and warm over very low heat or in the top of a double boiler.
2) Add 1-3 Tablespoons of herbs and mix in well.
3) Remove from heat and cover let stand for one week, (or longer) stirring or shaking several times a day.
4) Strain and continue with above recipes.






Grandma’s Hand Cream
Grandma’s Hand Cream (Lemon hand cream for rough skin)
Almond oil, fresh squeezed lemon juice, beeswax, lemon oil.

Recipe
1 1/2 Oz Almond oil (3 Tbs. + 1 tsp)
1 1/2 Oz Lemon Juice - strained (3 Tbs. + 1 tsp)
1 tsp beeswax (1/6 of a 1 Oz bar)
1/4 tsp Lemon oil.

1) In a double boiler melt together the beeswax and almond oil.

2) Slowly pour in the Lemon juice stirring actively with a spoon.

3) Remove from heat and stir until cream cools and begins to thickens.

4) Add the lemon oil and stir until completely cool.

5) Spoon into a jar and seal.






Lavender/Rose moisture cream
Lavender/Rose moisture cream
Beeswax, cocoa butter (or coconut oil), almond oil, Lavender Essential oil, Rose essential oil, and bottled spring water.

Recipe 2 teaspoon Beeswax (about 1/6 of a 1 Oz stick)
2 teaspoon Cooca butter OR 1 teaspoon coconut oil)
4 teaspoons Almond oil
10 drops Lavender oil
4 drops Rose oil
3 Tablespoons filtered water.

1) In a double boiler, melt the beeswax, butter and almond oil together until just melted.

2) beating with a wooden spoon (or a hand mixer on low) slowly add the bottled spring water - beating until cools and thickens. When mixture begins to thicken add the Essential oils drop by drop.

3) Spoon into a jar and store at room temperature.






COLD CREAM/ VANISHING CREAM
COLD CREAM/ VANISHING CREAM
1 Oz Jojoba oil
1 Oz Grapeseed oil
1/2 - 1 Oz beeswax (1/2 Oz for thinner cream)
2 Oz filtered water
1 tsp. Vegetable glycerin
1 tsp. borax
10 drops lavender oil (or oil of your choice)
40 drops Grapefruit seed oil (as a preservative)

1) Melt the beeswax in a double boiler, remover from heat add the remainder of the ingredients.

2) Mix with a hand held mixer until the cream is thick and creamy.

3) Store in a closed container in the refrigerator (6 mos. or so)


 
Part 2...

FRESH MINT FACIAL MASK
FRESH MINT FACIAL MASK

10 large peppermint leaves
2 Tabs filtered or spring water
1 Tab white cosmetic clay

1) Add the peppermint leaves and water to a blender and mix until green and frothy. Strain.

2) In a small bowl, add mint liquid to the clay and stir until a spreadable paste forms.

3) Spread onto a clean face and throat and let dry. Rinse ith warm water and pat dry.

Cosmetic clay is available at your local health food store.








WINTER FACIAL EXFOLIANT
WINTER LEMON FACIAL EXFOLIANT

1/4 Cup Sea Salt
Fresh squeezed lemon juice.

1) Put the salt into a bowl and add enough lemon juice to make a paste.

2) With fingertips massage into skin (AVOID the eye area) Rinse with warm water, pat dry, apply moisturizer.






AROMATHERAPY EXFOLIANT CLEANER
AROMATHERAPY EXFOLIANT CLEANER

1⁄2 cup oatmeal, ground to a flour
1/3 cup raw sunflower seeds, finely ground
1⁄4 cup almonds, finely ground
4-6 drops lavender, rose, rosemary, or tea tree oil
1 tsp heavy cream

1. Thoroughly mix first four ingredients together. Store in an airtight glass jar in the refrigerator.

2. Mix 2 teaspoons of scrub with 1 teaspoon of heavy cream until thick. With a wash cloth massage your face avoiding eyes and under eye area. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Pat on natural moisturizer.






Sweet Cider Scrub
Sweet Cider Facial Scrub
Cider contains malic acid and the sugar--besides being a gentle exfoliant--contains glycolic acid. Both these acids are alpha-hydroxy treats for your skin.

1/8 cup granulated sugar
1-3 teaspoons apple cider

1) Place sugar in a bowl and add cider until mixture is a frosting-like consistency.

2) Scoop mixture into hands and gently rub on face, using circular motions.

3). Rinse face with warm water and pat dry. Pat on natural moisturizer






Avocao Sugar Scrub
Sugar Scrub

1/2 Cup white cane sugar
1/2 Cup avocado oil

1) In a small glass bowl, blend everything together. Apply a small amount to the skin and scrub with the finger. Rinse, pat dry.






Spa Salt Scrub
Spa Salt Scrub

2 cups sea salt
4 cups grapeseed, sesame, apricot seed, almond oil, or palm kernel, or a blend of the above
20-30 drops essential oil of choice

1) Mix together the salt and oil. Add essential oil.

2) In the shower or bath tub rinse your skin with warm water, vigorously massage into your skin, avoid any areas of bruised or broken skin.

3) Rinse with warm water pat dry.






Hungary Water
The Queen of Hungary's Water

3 Tabs. Dried calendula
4 Tabs. Dried chamomile
6 Tabs. Dried lemon balm
1 Tabs. Dried lemon peel
1 Tabs. Dried rosemary
4 Tabs. Dried rose petals
1 Tabs. Dried sage
Vinegar (apple cider, wine vinegar or rice wine vinegar)
1/2 - 1 Cups Rose or witch hazel extract
4-6 drops Lavender or rose essential oil

1. Place all herbs on a kitchen scale and weigh them. Then take the weight and multiply by 1.1 (e.g.. say that all together the herbs weigh 6 ounces x 1.1 = 6.6)
Take that number and mentally say liquid measurement (ie, ~ 6 1/2 liquid ounces.

2) Place the herbs in a wide mouth jar and measure out (in liquid ounces) the vinegar of your choice. Pour the vinegar over the herbs and screw on the lid.

3) Keep in a warm spot (sunny window) for two weeks, shake the jar 2x a day.

4) Strain and discard the used herbs, reserving the extract.

5) Blend the amount of herbal extract with a equal amount of rose water or witch hazel. (If you want a stronger astringent add half as much rose water/witch hazel as herbal extract. Add essential oil, if desired. Store at room temperature in a glass jar with lid.

Queen of Hungary's Water is reported to be the first herbal product to be mass produced and marketed for skin care.






Rose Vinegar
ROSE VINEGAR

2 OZ FRESH ORGANIC ROSE PETALS
3 CUPS WHITE WINE VINEGAR

Combine in a clean, glass jar with a lid.
Keep in a warm place (sunny window) for two weeks.
Strain and discard the used rose petals.
Pour rose vinegar into a clean jar.
Store at room temperature.






Skin Spritzer
Skin Spritzer & Freshener

INGREDIENTS
1 tsp. blend of essential oils of your choice
1 tsp. vodka or isopropyl alcohol
2 cups bottled mineral water

Combine ingredients in a glass jar with a pump.
Shake each time before use.






Rosewater Violet Afterbath Splash
AFTERBATH SPLASH

1⁄2 cup Organic rose petals, dried.
1⁄2 cup Organic violet flowers, dried.
2 cups Spring or filtered water
4 Tabs Vodka or isopropyl alcohol

1) Crush the dried flowers then combine with the water and alchhol in a glass jar with a lid.
2) Store in a warm (sunny window) place for 2 weeks.
3) Using a very fine mesh strainer, strain out & discard the flowers.
5) Store in a glass bottle at room temperate.






Sport Salve
Sport Salve for Sore Muscles

Recipe:
1/2 tsp BGC2 Essential Oil*
1 Oz beeswax
1 1/2 Oz cocoa butter
1 1/2 Oz almond oil. (3 Tabs + 1 tsp)

1) In a double boiler melt together the beeswax, cocoa butter & almond oil. As soon as wax & cocoa butter melts remove from heat and stir in the essential oil.

2) Pour into a jar, allow to cool. Store at room temperature.

3) Apply to unbroken skin and rub in well. May wrap sore muscles with flannel, cotton or linen and apply dry heat (ie, hot water bottle)


* BGC2 - Boswellia, Ginger, Camphor & Calendula combination that's available (the only place I've seen it anyway...) at a book store in Colorado. PM me if you would like their contact info, I don't know if it's okay to post it here...

I would love to hear if any of you have tried out any of these, let us know your results! I've made almost all of them so I know how they turn out but I imagine most of these will be new to the majority of viewers...
