Amish cake recipe calls for instant pudding mix; I have on hand cooked pudding mix. can I substitute one for the other? Thanx. I hope I can figure out how to view the answer--I'm nearly computer illiterate

I don't believe you can substitute those. One only requires a liquid, such as milk, to gelatinize, while the other requires heating to a boil to thicken it, usually with corn starch as part of the powdered mix. Using a pudding mix that requires cooking won't thicken and set-up. It will stay a liquid.

many thanx

You're right,Selkie-I went ahead and used the cook-type along with the dry ingredients in a pseudo-pound cake, and when finished, the middle was not quite done in spite of baking 15 min. longer than suggested.
