It's especially nice when slices of hard boiled egg are placed on top of the fish before the sauce is poured over and the mashed taters are doffed on.
I like my fish pie's topping nice and crispy. To achieve this we mix sourdough breadcrumbs with finely grated Parmesan and sprinkle over the mashed taters.
A word about adding prawns and shrimps. Don't use pre-cooked as they will be tough. I leave them out in preference to using smoked haddock, and cod or whatever fish might might be available at the time. I have a liking for adding some freshly poached salmon. That's rather nice finding its pinky flesh mixed around, but peas - please - they have no place in fish pie.
