I remember reading some version of the Rapunzel story to daughter years ago in which R.'s mother made the deal with the witch to give up her daughter because she (mom) had become addicted to the rocket in the witch's garden.

Mudbug, the version I knew had Rapunzel's mom addicted to the witch's big leafy cabbages. Your version with the Rocket is much more interesting! I can very well understand the mom's addiction. (Not sure though if I'd sacrifice my first-born for my favorite rockets)
