I've come across a kitchen tool that looks like this:

I'm curious as to what it is used for?

Looks like a "pitting" tool. Something that could be used to remove olive or cherry pits. You might Google "cherry pitting tool" and see what shows up in images.

cherry pitter. might work for big olives too
