Courgette fissure

This courgette was hanging in a net for a few days and developed a fissure. Why might this have happened? What caused the inside to expand/outside to shrink?

hmmm, dunno. overripe? too much sun and it burst open? it doesn't look that big, and we can grow monstrous sized zucchini and yellow squash.
