Has anyone here ever made rice cakes the japanese kind? mochi? The one that requires sticky rice flour. It's called Mochiko in Jap. I think.

I have the flour, and have been attempting at making, but it never comes out right. It always have that flour-y taste instead of the smooth and chewy taste I like.

If you let me know your recipe & how you cook it then maybe I can tell you why it tasted floury. Probably you did not pan fry the flour first before using it for coating the mochi balls which explains the floury taste. Probably you did not beat the cooked dough enough which explains its lack of chewiness. Let me know if you need further help.
