Soft Pumpernickel bread

A few days ago I made some pumpernickel bread that I thought would come out OK but I wound up making hockey pucks

I would appreciate any soft pumpernickel recipes that anyone has to share. When it comes to regular bread its a breeze to make for me since I've done it many times before
