1960 Prices....

Just ran across an old newspaper...September 1960..were several grocery ads..

5 llbs Sugar.....29 cents
Round Steak....59 cents/lb
T-bone....69 cents/lb
Chuck Roast...39 cents/lb
grapes.....10 cents/lb
Cokes (King size) 79 cents/case
Lettuce 2 for 25 cents
Bananas... 10 cents/lb
Crackers 1lb box ...25 cents
5 Lbs flour...49 cents/lb

What the heck happened folks???

Houses...nice ones....$14000.00
CPA...$400.00 month
waitress...$34.00 week
Truck mechanic...$1.50 hour....

The first "fight" my new bride and I had was over a grocery bill...She spent $21.00 on groceies for the week....I went off like a rocket!!!!!

Oh I forgot....that was 1970!!!!

Sounds about right. Around then I was making a little over $30/week working floor duty in a local hospital and remember paying $1 for 5 loaves of bread.

However, I have to say that at a bag-it-yourself store near me these days, a 5-pound bag of house brand flour is under $1 and a 1-pound box of crackers is the same price. The same store has bananas for 25 cents a pound.

Times, they have 'a changed.
