Since my Mother moved back to her hometown
in California back in the Summer of 2014,
my Husband and I make the trek to visit with
her twice a year.
I know it should be more often, but …

I think I posted that the night before blast off,
we went out to dinner at one of our favorite
BYOB Italian Mom&Pop joints

DELISH!

The drive from our place in Northern Arizona to
the San Joaquin Valley is long, about 9 or so hours.
This time, we decided to do it in two segments.
So we stopped for the night in Barstow California...
nothing to write home about.
As we exited the Interstate, there was a huge
5th Wheel stopped at the end of the off-ramp with
his flashers on.
DH pulled up along side the rig and asked if they
were okay. It was a young couple, so cute,
who had run out of gas.
The gentleman asked if we could take him to the
nearest gas station, that he had a gas can, and he
would be most appreciative.
To my surprise, DH said sure-jump in!
I had my iPhone in hand to look up the nearest
gas station, it was about a mile up the road, no prob!
He offered to top off our gas tank, to which my
husband declined. He returned the young man to
his bride and we were off to our hotel … right across the
street from that gas station
We were so pooped, that we didn't get any dinner,
but instead ate the snacks that I had packed and
called it a night.
I had brought along some breakfast items for the next day,
we wanted to eat small- `cuz we were next headed to
Kohnen's Country Bakery in Tehachapi California, YAY!!!

Cheryl has talked about this place a whiles back,
and I made a mental note that the next time we went through
Tehachapi, we'd stop.
It was scrumptious! Thee soft pretzels,
real Iced Tea, the Tuna on Six Grain, the Black Forest Ham&Swiss
on German Rye and the half dozen assorted Danishes
(not pictured)
that went to my Mother's house.

We spent three nights with Mom in her guest room,
not the most comfortable, but it was free!

Then after several big hugs and crocodile tears,
we headed for Las Vegas.
It was an easy drive, until we crossed over the State Line …
we hit a gigantic dust storm!
We made it to our hotel on The Strip and got settled in.
That evening we walked around a bit on The Strip and
found ourselves at Caesar's Palace and had supper at
Trevi Italian Restaurant.
We'd been here before and it hit the mark again!

DH ordered the Pre-fixed Three Course meal, and I the
Cheese Raviolis.

The next night was the Main Event!

We've been trying to see John Fogerty, FOR YEARS!
FINALLY!
The Wynn was beautiful, but their employees leave something
to be desired... quite rude!

So one more day in Vegas and home we go...

Well, that didn't happen!

… before we went off to the concert, we had stopped
into White Castle for a quick bit, I had never had
this before (I'm from Hawaii `member ;))

Later that night, it was all hands on deck!
We got Food Poisoning!
Yup!

So our hotel was nice enough to let us stay another night,
at the same rate (even though now it was the weekend)
and gingerly made our way home the next day.

I didn't get "hit" until the next afternoon, so I went off on my own
for a while, and let DH re-coupe with his Pepto.

I found Luke's Lobster, yum!

I also found Canonita's Street Taqueria

AND
Le Macaron

… Along the way, I left several of my Painted Rocks...

IMG_4076.jpg

a lot were at the Venetian Hotel.
I didn't make to Bellagio this time,
I really wanted to see their Seasonal Display
in the lobby, but … next time.

For the past week since we've been home,
it has been easy-does-it, still getting our
feet back under us before we head out again

Oh, I forgot to add that we had done one more
good deed for the year

IMG_4052.jpg

Both my husband and I ordered White Castle Meals …
4 Sliders, Fries and a Drink …
each of us made it through 2 of the Sliders and a
coupla Fries before declaring them …
GROSS!!
I couldn't just throw the food away, and with so
many "homeless" people on The Strip, I
bundled up our remaining food and a drink,
and found an elder gentleman …
"Tata, did you eat today?" I asked him
"No" was his reply
"Here, you need to eat"

I sure hope that he didn't get sick too

Hope you’ve recovered from your White Castle debacle! Food poisoning sucks!

So, you were in Vegas again and we failed to hook up again? Maybe next time you’re coming through, we can go to Chinatown together to one of the excellent (and reasonable) izakaya or robata or AYCE Korean BBQ.

kgirl....I SO enjoyed your travelogue and pics! Kudos to the Mr. for being so helpful with the stranded couple in getting their rig back on the road. I'm sure they were so appreciative of the nice non-ax-murderers who helped them.

Glad to hear you stopped at Kohnen's bakery in Tehachapi....great pics! I'd make the drive there again just for lunch, in a heartbeat.

Envious you got to see John Fogerty! Loved him ever since I saw Creedence in concert many years ago. What a voice.....:punk:

Looks like the Italian restaurnt was in the Forum shops at Caesar's. I always go to that mall for the Fuente cigar shop. They have cigars I can't get in Dallas.

Funny thing, my one experience with food poisoning was also in Vegas. I was working at a trade show, and got it from the breakfast buffet at our hotel. I was wearing a very expensive suit and shoes. The shoes and the bottom of my slacks did not fare well. I had to send them out for cleaning.

 Cheryl, I read your comment aloud to DH,
he laughed and said,
"No, I had an eye on him the whole time he was in our car"
I was thinkin' the opposite, that he was the Mass murderer...
I also asked DH if we'd ever go back to Vegas and he said,
"NO! Well, not to the Strip or Downtown, our friends stay outside,
we'll meet up with them next time."

To this point, we've seen all of the bands that we want to see
over the course of the almost 12 years that we've lived here
on the Mainland … Fogerty was the last one and
we had been trying for years to get to see him!

That's correct C-Dog.
Trevi is in the Forum and is so much fun and delicious!
We don't do buffets anymore, not after seeing how
some are NOT taken care of by the staff.
All these grubby hands diving in, ack :glare:
Even in the hotels that serve breakfast, we wait
until the nice 'kitchen lady' brings out a fresh tray of
what-have-you to select our food.
