Another world's hottest pepper

My friend Greg Brooks, the Peppermaster, wrote on Facebook,

The most interesting things happen while we're out of town!

On November 14th, Peppermaster received confirmation from the Guinness World Records folks that there is a new World's Hottest Pepper in town.

Scoring a blistering 1,569,300 SHUs the new record holder is the Carolina Reaper.

Grown by the Puckerbutt Pepper Company of South Carolina, Ed Currie has spent several years growing out this pepper and testing and testing ad nauseum.

We're proud to inclued the Puckerbutt Pepper Company as one of our pepper suppliers.

Way to go Smokin' Ed.

At some point it really doesn't matter how many hundred thousand scoville units a pepper is.... it's just too damned hot to eat.

Soon we'll probably see some joker eating one on TV to prove how macho (stupid) he is.

Yeah, that was pretty much what I thought when I saw that.

I think we're past that point. People just want bragging rights now.

I am sure that sooner or later science will find that all these fools who eat foods that are not meant for human consumption have done more harm to themselves than just giving them bragging rights. Who will remember their names ten minutes later? They lose those first five minutes of fame just trying to get their breath back.
