I wanted to share something with my fellow animal lovers. Just read it in a magazine I picked up and really 'moved' me

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Mahatma Gandhi

I would agree there is truth to that statement. But for me (in addition to our animals) it is how we treat those in society that are vulnerable, such as our senior citizens and our children and those who are disabled.

:) There is also an indian proverb dont know which tribe that says it.I dont know it word for word but heres the jist of it.
When you die and go to where you should go all the animals you have ever encountered will be there to judge you to decide your final fate.

How interesting! I knew I liked the Indians. Always had belief about nature and how if works in our lives. That is such good thought to know we may see our friends. And I do mean friends. All of them unique in their own ways. But what examples of how we should treat each other. Makes us think outside the box so to speak.

The book I received has stories about how animals have affected different people and every one touches me. I am so thankful there are others out there who really care for their pets.

:) Heres one I keep in my email from a friend.

NATIVE AMERICAN CODE OF ETHICS

Rise with the sun to pray. Pray alone. Pray often.
The Great Spirit will listen, if you only speak.

Be tolerant of those who are lost on their path.
Ignorance, conceit, anger, jealousy and greed stem from a lost soul.

Pray that they will find guidance.

Search for yourself, by yourself. Do not allow others to make your path for you.

It is your road, and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one
can walk it for you.

Treat the guests in your home with much consideration.

Serve them the best food, give them the best bed and treat them with
respect and honor.

Do not take what is not yours whether from a person,
a community, the wilderness or from a culture.

If it was not earned nor given, it is not yours.

Respect all things that are placed upon this earth -
whether it be people or plant.

Honor other people's thoughts, wishes and words.
Never interrupt another or mock or rudely mimic them.

Allow each person the right to personal _expression.

Never speak of others in a bad way.

The negative energy that you put out into
the universe will multiply when it returns to you.

All persons make mistakes. And all mistakes can be forgiven.

Bad thoughts cause illness of the mind, body and spirit.

Practice optimism.

Nature is not FOR us, it is a PART of us. They are part of your worldly family.

Children are the seeds of our future. Plant love in their hearts and water
them with wisdom and life's lessons. Give them space to grow.

Avoid hurting the hearts of others. The poison of your pain will return to you.

Be truthful at all times. Honesty is the test of one's will and judgement
within this universe.

Keep yourself balanced. Your Mental self, Spiritual self, Emotional self,
and Physical self - all need to be strong, pure and healthy.

Work out the body to strengthen the mind.
Grow rich in spirit to cure emotional ails.

Make conscious decisions as to who you will be and how you will react.
Be responsible for your own actions.

Respect the privacy and personal space of others.

Do not touch the personal property of others - especially sacred and religious objects.
This is forbidden.

Be true to yourself first.

You cannot nurture and help others if you cannot nurture and help yourself first.
Leave your ego outside when you are trying to help others.
There is no room for your pride in a heart that is willing to learn at the hand of another.

Respect others' religious beliefs. Do not force your belief on others.
You don't have to agree with their beliefs, but you DO need to respect them.

Share your good fortune with others. Participate in charity.

What you give away will return to you in ways that make the spirit joyful and proud
for what you have done.

If you can live even SOME of these rules every single day (and it's not
that>hard to do), then you will be a Warrior in the eyes of the Great
Spirit and when He smiles at you, the sun belongs to YOU on that
day!

Oh I LOVE that one, jp! I so hope it's true! My father believes it and I'm counting on it!

(probably means all the LIVE animals you've ever encountered, right????)

These are all beautiful. I do hope to see my kitties again. They were such wonderful friends! I have always gravitated toward animal lovers, they seem to have an additional dimension to their personalities. I am going to copy the code of ethics just as soon as I get a new ink cartridge! I have the perfect space on my fridge and I can read it every day.

Walk in Beauty

Thank you so much jpmcgrew. This is something I am going to have to go to hobby shop to make it enlarged and framed. Too priceless to just put in the bible I want everyone to see this and hope they will digest the thought. I am so glad I quoted about the relation of a animal and the way people relate. As you said, if someone doesn't care for animals, I have my doubts about them too. Thank you again. Guess everyone knows my weakness now.

:) Thank You. Although I cant take credit for it but it is beautiful and I wish more people would read it every so often ,it would make the world a better place.
