Benton native comes home

John Malkovich came home to visit his family here last week, and the Southern Illinoisan (newspaper) interviewed him as he was touring the Wood Building, an historic landmark that's being renovated, with a bank on the first floor, and condos on the upper floors, where there used to be offices.
You can see a view of our county courthouse and public square, if you're interested.

On the right of the page, under Multi-media, Click on "Reflecting on the Past" to see the video. (The one that says interview with John Malkovich is just about his newest film.)

John's family owned our local newspaper, and his brother, Dan, still works there. I knew him as Danny's little brother.

My folks lived in Benton for a few years, and my mom worked with John's mom.

Just about my only brush with celebrity.

It's a small world, isn't it?
