Unfortunately, these programs cost money and some communities just don't have enough funds to offer this type of program. However, PetsMART charities has provided grant money for such programs and registered charities interested in spearheading such a program can apply for such funding. I am sure other grant sources are available. It takes someone to drive the initiative and develop the program.

I'm willing to pay taxes to support such a catch/spay/neuter/vaccinate/release program. As I said, the only alternative (elaborating) is to shoot to kill, bag them and toss them in the trash.

I'll agree that adoption programs are good. My dog adopted me at one such program, actually at PetSmart (although the dogs were provided by LA Animal Control), and we are still together 14 years later. I'm glad they didn't bag and tag me!!!

I'm not a cat person although I think they too should be allowed to live.

I have always thought municipal election ballots should include check boxes for programs one is willing to support with one's taxes...what a novel idea...
