I can buy black oil sunflower seeds for $16 for a 50 pound bag at the feed store. Last year, it was $11, and sometimes went on sale for nine or ten dollars.

Olive oil mixed with your oatmeal would be delicious gourmet food for the birdies, jpm, but why not just buy some bird seed?
:)I do buy bird seed I also get alot of birds the Pinon Jays wipe out everything. Im just trying to find out what else they might like.I had to rig a metal type basket so the little chickadees could get to the suet seed block and the Jays could not.Im dealing with a couple hundred of those jays

:)We dont have many squirrels here so they are not a problem. Thanks for all the great tips everyone.:)
you're fortunate not to have squirrels. The rodents always raid the bird feeders . In the summer I put out orange slices and apple slices for the Baltimore Orioles . Also have hummingbird feeders .
