Find Your Family!

I just found links to FREE sites (no strings attached) to find your family history!! I found my grandparents records from Ellis Island!! They scanned the ships log they signed AND have a picture of the ship they came in on!!! I cant even believe it. I HAD to share the sites with everyone here!!

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/default.asp
1. FamilySearch
Sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But this is an excellent site whether you're part of the LDS church or not. The records go back more than a hunded years. You can search via birth, marriage or death records from around the world.

2. The USGenWeb Project
A community of volunteers in each state of the U.S. and in other countries. USGenWeb puts all the researchers' Web sites in one place for simple, free access. Each of the volunteers' or states' sites is separately run, so your search options will vary. But you can't beat access to truly local information.

3. Ellis Island
Find out when your family first entered the United States. Run by the American Family Immigration History Center, this site keeps passenger manifests of immigrants processed through Ellis Island and the Port of New York from 1892 to 1924. You'll find an easy-to-read genealogy starter's guide and tips to get the most out of the manifest search.

4. WorldGenWeb Project
Along the vein of USGenWeb, the WorldGenWeb Project relies on volunteers from around the world for local records. The site offers good coverage outside of the U.S. and offers tips for finding records in other countries.

5. U.S. National Archives and Records Administration
The NARA offers census, military, and land ownership records dating back to the nineteenth century. It also has help for those who are of North American Indian descent.

I hope you enjoy them!!

My youngest sister is missing. She is not wanting to be found but come the time that our mother passes, she will come into a very small amount of money. If we don't know her SS#, how can she be found? I know she's here in California somewhere. My oldest sister isn't wanting to put out money for a PI especially since she isn't wanting to be found. So in the meantime, how do I locate her by birthdate, name, and birthplace? Help...if you can...

This is fantastic. I had to stop searching when the kids came along, it was too time consuming. Thank you so very much.

Thanks Sushi! I'm going to do some research on Paul's Family and then surprise him with it.

It'll be fun!

I've tried familysearch.org, with a bit of success. Like Raven said, it can get very addictive! But it's fun and interesting.

No mainly because I don't know my great grandmother's maiden name.
I'm going to have to talk to my mom and ask her if she knows names or not.
