Frozen Mouse (computer)

I didn't want anyone to think this was a disgusting thread about critters! Anyway, my darn mouse has been freezing up on me all day. It's a wireless optical one so it's not like I can take it apart and clean it. Every time it happens I have to restart the computer. It's been happening more and more frequently so I've been unable to do a thing on the 'puter all day (on DH's old clunker right now and my eyes can't handle more than a couple minutes of it!). Anyone have any ideas what's wrong or what I can do about it?

DH is my "tech support" but he's out of town today!

Try unplugging the thingy from the USB port and plugging it back in. When mine went kerflooey that helped for a bit.

LOL--now that's techy talk I understand! Thanks, Alix, I'll have to give that a try. I've been having so many problems with the computer lately I worry that it's just the beginning of the end.

If it's wireless, it might have a battery. When the battery begins to get weak, the cursor will freeze. Try a new battery.

Oh, one other thing. After you change the battery, you may need to press a button on the bottom of the mouse and another button on the little black receiver thingy to reestablish a connection between the mouse and computer.

What brand is the mouse? I may be able to send you a picture of what I'm talking about.

I agree with the battery issue. When I had one it was amazing how often I had to replace it! I started learning keyboard shortcuts to help the life of them! lol

Battery life sucks on these things, or at least it does on mine. Apparently it's always on. Anyway, I finally bought some rechargeable AA batteries, about $10 for 4 with the charger. Still have to change the battery every few days. Worth it not to have the cord.

I have a Micosoft cordless keyboard and mouse... the battery lasts for weeks and weeks and I'm one the puter 24/7.

I used to have someother kind and had to replace the batteries almost daily. We finally figured out that it was some kind of software problem, NOT the batteries. I wish I was wise enough to explain it to you...
