Not to get off topic (but I am going to anyway just for a second ), but I just heard about a Portuguese Food festival being held in Lowell sometime soon Andy. I am getting this info third hand, but my wife said her father was telling her about it and asking if I wanted to go. If that is really what it is then I will definitely be there!

I'm jealous!! It's a 90-min drive to the nearest Indian (or for that matter, many other ethnic restaurants). I love Indian buffets, in spite of generally hating buffets. Indian food takes to that forum more than most, and we look for them when we hit Madison. Nothing like a good college town for great ethnic food!!

The UK is lucky - restaurants from the sub-continent abound due to our old Empire and newer Commonwealth ties! The interesting thing is that very, very, very few 'Indian' restaurants are owned by or have chefs from India. Most of them are either Bangladeshi or Pakistani.

Good 'Indian' food has been available in the UK since the early 50s. Nowadays it is said that CTM (Chicken Tikka Masala) is one of the British national dishes. Truth is: CTM is not Indian or Pakistani - it was invented in the UK by Bangladeshi chefs to cater to the British palate. Personally, I don't like it, it is too anaemic and not hot enough for my tastebuds. It has to be at least Madras strength before I enjoy the dish.

I did some looking around in my Lowell links and google but could find nothing about a Protuguese food festival coming up. I'll keep looking and let you know if I find something.
